Meanwhile, Malawi is once again in the news due to its extreme food shortage. A story has been posted by Voice of America explaining the differences between the government's boasts surrounding this year's bountiful crop of maize and the actual reality on the ground. While the numbers say that there has been enough maize to share with other countries, men, women, and children in Malawi are still malnourished. Why are the numbers not adding up?
