In answer to What we are Doing about Global Warming from the last post---Please take a few seconds right now to sign this petition! There are already over 50,000 people that have signed the petition from ONE asking the Senate to make sure that a portion of the money from the climate bill goes toward helping the poorest people in the world deal with the effects of climate change. Add you voice too!
Why?
Because climate change disproportionately affects the poor, as noted by the United Nations Development Programme: "While climate change is a global phenomenon, its negative impacts are more severely felt by poor people and poor countries. They are more vulnerable because of their high dependence on natural resources, and their limited capacity to cope with climate variability and extremes."
The Senate could significantly help reduce the disastrous effects of climate change for the poorest people in the world by contributing just 5% of the income generated by climate change legislation to poor countries.
